Islamic Education Center partners with Lifestyle Medicine Clinic in Zamboanga for Psychological First Aid Training (PFA)

In its Facebook page, the Zamboanga Lifestyle Medicine Clinic, an evidence-based therapeutic clinic for common lifestyle-related chronic diseases, published on March 27, 2021 that the non-profit organization Markaz Attarbiyatul Islamiya (MAI) – Sinunuc Extension invited them to share their knowledge and expertise on Psychological First Aid (PFA).

As stated by the American Psychological Association, “PFA is an initial disaster response intervention with the goal to promote safety, stabilize survivors of disasters and connect individuals to help and resources. PFA is delivered to affected individuals by mental health professionals and other first responders. The purpose of PFA is to assess the immediate concerns and needs of an individual in the aftermath of a disaster, and not to provide on-site therapy.”

As part of its advocacy, the Zamboanga Lifestyle Medicine Clinic provided said training for the members of the MAI with the aim of empowering its members; strengthening their social connection; and, enhancing their stress-management skills.

This activity is extremely significant as it shows the importance of cooperation, collaboration, and partnership among Filipinos especially on knowledge-sharing and addressing the needs of the community.
